Nov. 12th, 2014 04:00 amName: Glawen Elesis
Age: 17
Interests: Calligraphy, Pool, Interior decorating
A young and naive, but cheerful and kind elf girl attending Hydral Academy of Education and the Arts on a scholarship. While the elven community she comes from isn't deliberately isolationist, they are strongly traditionalist and as such reject pretty much anything humans have made or used since roughly the time of the industrial revolution. Despite this, when Hydral's administration reached out to offer a student a place at their school in order to foster a greater relationship with the outside world, Glawen's choice to accept was met with nothing but support.
While she predominantly takes classes in a class level matching her age, Glawen takes several remedial classes to smooth over disparities between the human-modeled education system Hydral operates on and the elven style of learning she was raised on. These amount to a crash course in highschool-level maths and a patchwork course on modern technology, since she is as fluent in Japanese as she is in her native Elven and delights in writing kanji with the old-fashioned brush technique.
Financially, Glawen is very well-off for a student. Her community was primarily a tit-for-tat favor trading system, but she was given a few pieces of jewelry to sell to set herself up, and the workmanship earned her a pretty penny offering them at a fortuitously-timed auction market she found days after arriving. She also makes a surprising amount of money from the pool tournaments held at youth centers around the city; after discovering its similarity to ball games of her youth, she took to the sport like a duck to water and is a valued teammate in eight-ball and nine-ball formats.
Much of this money goes into redecorating and furnishing the modest unit she lives in - she quickly found Hydral's student dorms far too cramped for her tastes and found an off-campus property she could afford outright, intending to simply sell it again when she leaves. The property was unfurnished, but that didn't bother her; making a house a home is a hobby and talent she inherited from her mother. Glawen has no problem with waking early to walk to school, as early as 5AM some days... but she gets to sleep in some more now, having recently learned how to take the bus.
While rather slender in build for the most part, Glawen is very well-endowed for an elf and bigger than most humans her age. This gets her a lot of uncomfortable attention from boys - attention that easily flusters her, as she's very virginal in all respects. On the other hand, she made friends with some of the girls in her class when they realized her quietness was due to honest naivety than the aloofness assigned to her race in fairy-tales. She still feels the uniform blouses show her "feminine hills" off more than she's used to (though not necessarily true, she's used to having worn loose dresses all her life) but after joining an underwear shopping trip with her new friends, a good bra helps stop them jiggling all day. She hasn't even seen what humans consider a swimsuit yet.
Also to the surprise of her new human friends, Glawen doesn't care for human sweets at all. In a forest community where most sweeteners used were some form of fruit juice, actual sweet foods were an indulgence too rare to truly develop a taste for. Glawen considers most lollies sickly, chocolate to be gag-inducing at its sweetest and unpalatable at its most bitter, and sodas to be borderline emetic. While she can manage mild varieties of crepes and ice-cream in very small servings, she most enjoys simple, light varieties of cake. She also has no issue with people eating meat; while she personally prefers fish, hunting is an important seasonal food source back home.
